Join YourWords STL for an interactive art exhibit in the Cortex, on Sunday, Dec. 16th from 3 PM to 5 PM. With guidance from teaching artist Aysia BerLynn, the young women of Marygrove Children's Home have created paintings in response to mindfulness exercises, then used their artwork as prompts for creative writing. Participants will have the opportunity to view the paintings, read the accompanying poetry, and write responses to the artwork on display.
Attendees will also be able to enjoy appetizers, provided by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, refreshments, and music.

Marygrove Children's Home is a therapeutic residence for infants to 21-year-olds who have experienced abuse or have nowhere else to turn. YourWords STL is a nonprofit organization that uses tutoring, creative writing workshops, and collaborative projects to help St. Louis youth amplify their voices.
Dream Builders 4 Equity & YourWordsSTL (YWSTL), will be hosting our third annual Dreams Made Real Book Signing & Poetry Slam.
During the 2019 Summer Youth Academy, our Dreamers (youth) had the opportunity to rehab a property in the City of St. Louis, network with positive community leaders, and publish a book (which they have 100% ownership.) They also participated in three days of workshops hosted by YourWords STL. The YWSTL team worked with the youth on art projects that involved revising and re-imaging books, and poetry/spoken word performances.
With the help of the Young Griot Society, our Dreamers will participate in our first public poetry slam and Q&A session, followed by the launch and signing of their book. They will share and answer questions about their experiences and growth in the program.
