With school back in session YourWords STL is rolling with momentum into the Fall. By now, there is a culture of writing that exists at Marygrove and as per usual, the work didn’t stop over the summer months. Coming off a Spring workshop where students saw their work performed by professional actors, the young men at the Drury House jumped at the opportunity to write and personally perform their work this summer. Our session concluded with the students of the Drury House reading as featured artists at Lyrical Therapy, a weekly open-mic hosted by Urb Arts in Old North St. Louis. The ceremonious performance concluded our six-workshop summer session, as the current cohort of Marygrove young men graced the stage with original compositions, with genres ranging from philosophy, to poetry and song. Once again, YourWords STL will be compiling and publishing a chapbook of the students’ work, which includes forms they studied such as haiku and sonnet.

Your Words STL is proudly partnering with the St. Louis Post Dispatch to build a curriculum for the Fall semester that incorporates news content into the workshops. We’ll keep you posted on its development.
